Note: This program is no longer being offered.
The Manager-In-Training program is available to highly qualified applicants who are interested assuming the position of a Parks Assistant Manager. This is a fast track, intensive training program with many expectations and demands. It is not an internship program.
The Parks & Historic Sites Division has the option to select up to five Manager-In-Training candidates at one time. Usually, these appointments are staggered throughout the year.
These positions are highly competitive with the candidates encouraged to apply to open Assistant Managers positions once their supervisors agree they have the necessary skill sets to effectively compete during the interview process. Successful applicants have been undergraduate or graduate students with exceptional skills or experience in the park management arena. Other applicants have entered the program as a “second careers” candidate. These individuals have been successful and productive in previous employment settings and bring both the experience and skills necessary for assuming the duties of an Assistant Manager.
MIT’s selected for the program are assigned to a park and live on-site in a state provided residence. The park manager works daily with the candidate to train them in every aspect of park management. This includes holiday, weekend and evening work. In addition to housing the candidate is paid an hourly salary and has the choice to participate in the state employees benefit options plan.
